Tony Khan praises Ricochet while the former WWE star’s next move continues to spark excitement.
Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Ricochet entered free agency on July 1 after his WWE contract expired. He has been linked to AEW since reports of his intent to leave WWE first started circulating. Tony Khan previously noted that he did not want to talk about Ricochet or anyone else while he was still under contract elsewhere.
In a new interview with Liam Crowley of ComicBook, Tony Khan shared his thoughts on Ricochet.
“I’m a huge fan of Ricochet. I think he’s a great, great wrestler,” Khan said. “He’s been involved in matches against some of the top stars in AEW. He also has a great history in New Japan Pro Wrestling, as he’s been a champion there and a top star.
“We have great collaboration there and I love the history of New Japan and I think he’s a big part of it. During a great era when a lot of our top stars were wrestling there, he was a big part of it. I have a lot of admiration and respect for Ricochet and think he’s one of the top athletes and one of the most exciting stars in all of wrestling.”
Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp (via Fightful Select) recently reported that Ricochet’s agent was backstage at AEW Dynamite. The report noted that there were talks between the two sides.
Tony Khan On Ricochet’s Matches With Will Ospreay
Fans have often buzzed about Ricochet potentially coming to AEW, and his past matches with Will Ospreay are frequently a part of the conversation. Tony Khan is well aware of this history, and he spoke highly of the matches.
“Oh wow, just phenomenal. Phenomenal matches. Phenomenal one-on-one matches,” Tony Khan praised. “Ricochet was phenomenal in New Japan Pro Wrestling as a single star and as a tag team star. One of his greatest rivals was Will Ospreay and they had tremendous, tremendous matches. They have a lot of chemistry and friendship outside of the ring too.”
WrestleZone will provide more information about Ricochet’s status as it becomes available.
