AEW Dynamite Results (6/26/24): Blackpool Combat Club Takes On LIJ

AEW Dynamite Results – June 26, 2024

This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite kicks off with MJF in Buffalo.

MJF gets on the microphone in the ring and is about to talk to the city of Buffalo but is interrupted by Daniel Garcia. MJF says he’s glad these people love him but warns him to tread lightly. Daniel Garcia thanks MJF for saving him last week but since they are Buffalo, everything is his business.

Garcia says he’s not sure why he’s out there and figures it’s about to say bad things about the city of Buffalo, but he’s out there to say nice things about MJF. MJF tells him to go on. Garcia tells a story from about nine months ago where he wasn’t doing much on AEW programming while MJF was the World Champion. Garcia says MJF had a conversation with him in the back that lit a fire under him that he saw him as more than a lacky or a background character but a pillar of AEW.

MJF told Garcia that if he could get enough wins, Tony Khan would allow him to challenge for the World Title. Garcia said that when he got that match, it was one of the most embarrassing moments of his life, but that’s only made him work even harder. Daniel questions why he should settle for being a pillar when he can be a backbone for the company instead. Garcia thanks MJF for lighting that fire under him.

Mutual respect between MJF and Daniel Garcia on AEW Dynamite

MJF says he didn’t come out to trash-talk the people of Buffalo; he’s out there to shill Forbidden Door and his Collision return next month. MJF says he was actually going to ask Garcia to come out to the ring because he has a question for him, but before he asks it, he wants to say thank you.

Friedman says no one wants to publicly discuss the good things he does backstage because they don’t think he deserves his spot. MJF says he didn’t give Garcia a title shot for the hell of it. He gave it to him because he earned it. MJF says they both have a whole lot of bark and a whole lot of bite.

Max says when he gave Garcia his opportunity to take his title, he beat him without breaking a sweat, but since then, he’s gotten better by busting his ass. MJF says Garcia didn’t run away from the grind; he is the grind.

MJF proposes a match between the two men at Wembley Stadium at All In. Garcia says that is huge. But before he can give his answer, both men are interrupted by the AEW International Champion, Will Ospreay. MJF is not too happy about it either.

Will Ospreay puts over Daniel Garcia and says he knows he wants a shot at the International Championship, and he’s been racking up wins to prove it. Ospreay says he gets his match on Dynamite next week and that it will also be for the AEW World Championship, implying that he will defeat Swerve Strickland at Forbidden Door.

MJF stands in the corner, looking furious at being upstaged, as Ospreay leaves the ring. Garcia goes to answer MJF’s challenge, who tells him he has a big opportunity next week and should focus on that first before leaving the ring, leaving Garcia alone, who dances before leaving.

Can Strickland and Ospreay co-exist!?

It’s shown that Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana were watching the whole thing backstage. Strickland says Ospreay is putting the cart before the horse offering title shots before he even wins it. Swerve says Ospreay better hold up his end of the bargain tonight in their tag match against The Gates of Agony.

Blackpool Combat Club vs. LIJ (Shingo Takagi, Titan, and Hiromu Takahashi)

  • The match is thrown out after Moxley hits Takahashi with a chair and the six men just brawl.

This brings out Tetsuya Naito, and Moxley meets him in the aisleway, and the two men brawl.

Meanwhile, in the ring, Takagi attacks and targets Wheeler Yuta’s head. This takes Bryan Danielson out of the commentary booth and into the ring. Danielson and Tagaki stare each other down in the middle of the ring.

Jay White defeated Rey Fenix in an Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Quarterfinal Match

  • Jay White hits Rey Fenix with the Bladerunner to score the pinfall victory.

Bullet Club Gold celebrates in the ring before being interrupted by The Patriarchy. Jay White offers Christian Cage to get into the ring, but Cage thinks better of it, and they walk away.

Matthew and Nicholas Jackson are backstage. Nicholas says he has a temper and Private Party took advantage of them last week, but it won’t happen when the titles are on the line. Matthew Jackson announces that the wild card pick for the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament was handpicked by them and they will win the whole tournament and bring the World Championship back to The Elite.

Another match announced for Forbidden Door…

The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn come to the ring. Max Caster says they exposed The Young Bucks last week by defeating them to earn themselves a title shot. Anthony Bowens says he heard what Nicholas says, and he doesn’t want to hear any excuses because when they cash in their title shot, The Acclaimed will be two-time AEW Tag Team Champions.

The Young Bucks and Kazuchika Okada interrupt. Okada says scissor me, bitch. Matthew Jackson tells the crowd to have respect for the EVPs and shut their mouths. Nicholas Jackson says they are out there to conduct some business and challenge The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn to a trios match at Forbidden Door.

Billy Gunn says he knows how to deal with EVPs and he knows a President. A video package plays announcing Hiroshi Tanahashi will team with The Acclaimed as Scissor Ace. The Elite don’t look intimidated or impressed.

Mark Briscoe, Orange Cassidy, and Kyle O’Reilly are backstage with Renee Paquette. Briscoe says he has two shoulders and only one title so he needs to add the TNT Title to his collection on Sunday. Kyle O’Reilly cuts a promo on Zack Sabre Jr., and Briscoe feeds him some additional lines. You just need to watch this segment to truly appreciate it. It’s in the video embedded below.

Toni Storm, Mariah May, and Mina Shirakawa defeated Saraya, Harley Cameron, and Anna Jay

  • Mina Shirakawa hits Anna Jay with the Mina Driver to score the pinfall victory for her team.

After the match, Mariah May tried to smooth things over. Mina tries to hit Toni with the champagne bottle but accidentally hits Mariah instead. Storm was furious over what took place.

Mercedes Moné on AEW Dynamite

A video package plays, hyping the title for title match at Forbidden Door between Mercedes Moné and Stephanie Vaquer.

Mercedes Moné is backstage and questions where Stephanie Vaquer is when she showed up in CMLL last week and kicked her ass and held both titles up. Moné says she knows Vaquer has a match on Collision this Saturday. Mercedes says she’s going to have to show up and watch the matchup from ringside.

Chris Jericho, Big Bill, and Bryan Keith come to the ring. Big Bill says Bryan Keith was injured last week by Samoa Joe, HOOK, and Katsuyori Shibata. Bill says when one door closes another door opens…perhaps a forbidden one. Chris Jericho says he’s in AEW to help the young guys, which is a shot at a recent Cody Rhodes interview. Jericho says they found a third man to replace Keith this Sunday and it’s Minoru Suzuki.

Minoru Suzuki says Jericho misunderstood him, and he doesn’t want to team with them; he wants to face Chris Jericho. Suzuki says he wants nothing to do with The Learning Tree and challenges Jericho for the FTW Championship at Forbidden Door.

Samoa Joe, HOOK, and Katsuyori Shibata come out. Joe makes fun of The Learning Tree. Shibata says oh brother, this guy sucks. Jericho slaps Joe, and he responds with a headbutt, and they beat them down and send the trio packing.

Zack Sabre Jr. defeated Kyle O’Reilly

  • Gabe Kidd watches this match with The Undisputed Kingdom in the crowd. Zack Sabre Jr. locks Kyle O’Reilly in an armbar to score the submission victory.

Orange Cassidy still has some friends

Orange Cassidy goes to the ring to check on Kyle O’Reilly, but The Undisputed Kingdom pushes him out of the way to check on him instead. Zack Sabre Jr. and Orange Cassidy face off as other members of TMDK show up and outnumber Cassidy. This brings out Tomohiro Ishii to stand with Cassidy, and TMDK leaves the ring.

Will Ospreay and Swerve Strickland (w/ Prince Nana) defeated The Gates of Agony

  • Will Ospreay hits Toa Liona with the Hidden Blade to score the pinfall victory for his team.

Ospreay snatches Strickland’s title again and Swerve hits him with a House Call in response as AEW Dynamite goes off the air.
