Nyla Rose Wants To Hold Championship Gold In Japan

Nyla Rose looks back on her ventures in Japan.

Prior to signing with All Elite Wrestling, Nyla Rose spent much of her early career over in Japan, wrestling for promotions such as Marvelous, Sendai Girls, and Pro Wrestling ZERO1. On a recent episode of Close Up w/ Renee Paquette, Rose reflected on her time in the east Asian country, specifically how it to set her up for future success.

“I could be absolutely wrong, please don’t quote me on this, but I think it has to do with the culture, the culture of respect towards pro wrestling in Japan,” Rose said. “Over there in Japan and Mexico, pro wrestling is on the same level as like baseball or like football is here. It’s just held in higher regard, so with that, you’re constantly working. We lived in the dojo. Having a wrestling ring a few feet from where you sleep, kind of a game changer.”

“Anybody out there that’s a wrestler or thought of wrestling or dabbled in wrestling, I can assure you, you’ve laid in bed at night and you’ve thought of something you might have seen in a movie or television, heck even a cartoon. You might have thought of that and be like ‘Oh that would be a great wrestling move.’ It’s a little dangerous in the fact that you can get up and run to the ring and go see if it actually is going to translate.”

Fast forward five years, Rose is now a former AEW Women’s World Champion. Looking ahead, though, Rose is also keen on capturing championship gold in Japan as well.

“On the broad spectrum, I would love to hold gold in Japan,” Rose said. I’ve had a few title matches. By few, I think I mean two, but I’ve never attained, so to actually hold gold in Japan would mean a lot to me for a multitude of reasons. I feel I owe a lot of my career to Japan. I don’t think I would be where I am with AEW and in AEW if it weren’t for my time in Japan.”
