Tetsuya Naito isn’t afraid to put his money where his mouth is regarding his IWGP World Heavyweight Championship match this Sunday at Forbidden Door.
Back in April at NJPW Windy City Riot, Jon Moxley defeated Naito to capture the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship for the first time. But Naito intends to get his title back this Sunday.
New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s Tetsuya Naito recently spoke with Tokyo Sports. When asked about Jon Moxley’s exclusion from this year’s G1 Climax, Naito stated he’d be willing to transfer his spot to Moxley if he could not beat him this Sunday at Forbidden Door.
“I wonder if they didn’t offer him the title, or if they did offer him the title, but he turned it down, “Tetsuya Naito said. “I don’t know if Moxley will have the schedule open, or if New Japan will approve it. However, there have been cases in the past where it was approved (when Satoshi Kojima handed it over to Hiroyoshi Tenzan before the 2016 tournament). If I don’t get the belt back, the IWGP World Champion who has beaten me consecutively will be a much more deserving opponent than me. After all, it’s a Grade 1 fight.”
WrestleZone will have live coverage of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door this Sunday night.
