MJF is set to compete at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, and his opponent has been confirmed.
Former world champion MJF had been sidelined due to injuries since Samoa Joe dethroned him at AEW Worlds End. “The Generational Talent” returned at AEW Double or Nothing, and he had his first match back on the June 19 episode of AEW Dynamite. There, he faced former ROH World Champion RUSH in a hard-fought match.
After the bell, Brian Cage and Gates of Agony appeared on the video screen, alongside Hechicero, and spoke on behalf of The EVPs. They revealed that Hechicero would be MJF’s opponent at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. However, the broadcast team noted that the match was not yet made official.
If the match is confirmed, it would mark MJF’s first pay-per-view match since AEW Worlds End in December 2023.
MJF later accepted Hechicero’s challenge.
Update: Tony Khan confirmed the match in a post on Twitter:
Hechicero is one of the most decorated stars in CMLL. Among other accolades, he is a former CMLL World Heavyweight Champion.
As of this writing, the match between MJF and Hechicero has not been confirmed for AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door. WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
