Claudio Castagnoli Was ‘Extremely Happy’ To Have One More Singles Match With Bryan Danielson

Claudio Castagnoli may have had his last singles match against Bryan Danielson.

The inaugural AEW Continental Classic saw Blackpool Combat Club members Claudio Castagnoli and Bryan Danielson square off in their first singles match since 2021, but it was their first in front of a live audience in nearly a decade.

During a recent interview with Denise Salcedo, the former WWE United States Champion reflected on wrestling Danielson at least one more time as Danielson winds down his full-time career.

“Well I was super excited when I joined AEW and the Blackpool Combat Club,” Castagnoli said. “People ask me, ‘How do you feel?’ I’m like, ‘I feel like it’s just right.’ I get up another day and it feels like I’ve always been part of it. With Bryan, I’ve known him almost 20-plus years now, and all over the world, like you said, we’ve been in the ring and also just hung out and traveled together for so long that it’s been so much fun.”

Claudio Castagnoli Would Love To Face Bryan Danielson Again

Castagnoli noted their BCC group chat and that they’ve recently started the BCC book club as they’re all reading a book on “unlocking your own genius” at the request of Danielson. He also stated that he would love to face Danielson again if he gets the chance.

“That just sums it up how much fun it’s been with Bryan,” Castagnoli added. “And to the second part of your question, if this is his last year full-time wrestling, I’m extremely happy to have had that match with him because we were talking and the last couple of matches we had were in front of nobody or screens in the Thunderdome era. And before that, it was like tag matches and this and that.

“Singles-wise, I think it was a gauntlet match years ago like [2013] or something like that when I was still with Zeb and Swagger. Then obviously before that Ring of Honor, so it’s actually been quite a while and I was extremely happy that I was able to wrestle him for that long in front of an audience on TV and just go in there and have fun. If he can do it again, I would love to. But if not, if this is his last year, I feel like Bryan is going down the list of fun stuff to do and I was glad to have been a part of it.”

Castagnoli and Danielson teamed up in an eight-man tag team match at AEW Worlds End on December 30.
