Miro did not enjoy being away from AEW.
Former TNT Champion Miro is set to make his return to action on the premiere episode of AEW Collision on Saturday. He only competed in four matches in 2022, with his last match taking place at AEW All Out in September. Ahead of his return, Miro spoke to Gabe Neitzel and Jonathan Hood of Good Karma Wrestling about how he felt about his time away from the ring.
“It sucks. It sucks, you know, just looking for answers and not getting any,” Miro said. “It’s not a good place. Not just me, but overall as a human being, when you have no answers to all these questions, it just eats you inside. I have quite a long time to eat myself. Even though I’m still 260 pounds, I ate quite a bit. I’m aching to come back and to find out what’s going on and what’s happening. It’s been a while.”
When asked what he missed during his time away, Miro responded, “The fans, always the fans. There’s just nothing like the professional wrestling fans, that instant connection that you have with them as soon as you, not even walk out, as soon as their music hits, you hear their roar, man. That’s what I missed. I miss performing for them because they deserve The Redeemer and I deserve them.”
Miro was then asked if “The Redeemer” gimmick would also be returning, but he didn’t seem to have a clear answer.
“The answers that I’ve been looking for, I haven’t found, but what I’ve done in AEW, it’s the longest story that we’ve had,” Miro claimed. “Since the beginning, the arc of the character, we started with the gamer and he had to snap and destroy his best friend because he thought he was sabotaging him. To finally peak further and further and find God on his side and run with that. That was when the title got taken away and I went from God’s Favorite Champion to God’s Forsaken Champion. It’s always an arc, the Redeemer is always there. I don’t think anybody in the whole company can say about this continued growth of a character like I have. I love the storytelling, and that’s what I intend to do once I come back as The Redeemer.”
