WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin says he hasn’t heard anything about a potential match at WrestleMania 39.
Austin came out of retirement in 2022, as he faced Kevin Owens in a No Holds Barred Match at WrestleMania 38. He also appeared at the second night of the show and dropped Vince McMahon, Austin Theory, and Pat McAfee with Stunners. Fightful Select recently reported that WWE has made internal pitches to Austin for a match at WrestleMania 39.
Speaking with The Wrestling Classic, Austin was asked whether fans will see him compete at WrestleMania 39.
“I haven’t heard anything,” Austin said. “Literally, as we speak right now, about a few weeks away, and it’s the biggest show of the year. Right now, I think WWE has got as good a roster that they’ve had since the Attitude Era. They’ve got a deep roster. So I think so many guys and gals need those coveted spots. They got plenty of names to draw from, plenty of talent to draw from. I think they should shine the light and the cameras on their current superstars.”
When asked whether he will make an appearance at the show, he said, “To be determined.”
Austin also looked back on his match at WrestleMania 38 and described why he decided to return to the ring.
“Well, I got a call from WWE. They said, ‘Hey, man, would you like to take part in WrestleMania 38?’ It was in Dallas, Texas, so it was kind of a sentimental thing of, you know, I played football right outside of Dallas, and I started at the Sportatorium, home of the world famous Von Erich family. So what fitting way… I always said I’d never get back in the ring, I was done. But I always said I would keep the door open if the stars aligned properly.
“They did. They presented a storyline or just an angle, just a short angle with Kevin Owens, who I absolutely love. He’s golden on the mic and awesome in the ring. Once they said his name, the creative process continued into what it was, and not to really be a full blown match, but a talk segment turned into what a match would be. I love Kevin Owens, and I was happy to share the ring with him.”
