Wardlow On His Absence From AEW TV: It Changed My Life, I’m A Different Person Now

Wardlow opens up about his time away from AEW and states that it made a major impact.

“Mr. Mayhem” lost the TNT Championship in a three-way match at AEW Full Gear; Samoa Joe emerged victorious in the bout, which also included Powerhouse Hobbs. Wardlow then unsuccessfully challenged Joe for the title on the December 28 episode of AEW Dynamite. Following that loss, he was absent for a few weeks until he returned on the February 1 episode of Dynamite, where he confronted Joe. The two powerhouses have continued to feud ever since.

Speaking with Connor Casey of ComicBook, the former TNT Champion reflected on his month away from television and noted that taking some time off changed his life. He detailed how he’s a completely different person now, and he’s ready to “unleash” the new version of himself.

“I’ve been on the road, I’ve been injured, I have multiple torn muscles, I have multiple injuries that a lot of people don’t know about. I never took time off. Flying every week, hotels every week, it was all catching up to me maybe,” he said. “So those four weeks looking at myself in the mirror with this hair, I used to have this haircut, and the last time I had this haircut I was a different person and I wasn’t a very good person.

“I saw that man in the mirror and it made me realize like, ‘Hey, you reached behind you, took the devil’s claws out of your back before, you could do it again.’ I had four weeks to heal and to think about everything, and it honestly changed my life. I am a completely different person than I was two months ago. I mean, it is wild the positive effect it had on me, and I’m just ready to unleash the evolved me.”

Wardlow will challenge Samoa Joe for the TNT Championship at AEW Revolution on March 5. WrestleZone will have coverage of the show as it airs.
