After the success of the inaugural AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door pay-per-view, it appears that the sequel will soon take place.
According to Spectrum Cable’s pay-per-view listings, AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door will culminate on Saturday, June 24. No location was indicated in the respective “upcoming events” section, but the listing remains within the same timeframe as last year’s event. The 2022 Forbidden Door occurred on June 26th from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
Neither All Elite Wrestling nor New Japan Pro-Wrestling has confirmed the date or location of the co-produced show. AEW President Tony Khan recently discussed his hope for the event to return though.
“We always build up this big event, AEW and NJPW coming together for Forbidden Door. I think Forbidden Door 1 was such a big success, we’re looking forward to doing it together again,” he told In The Kliq podcast. “They send a lot of their top stars to AEW and to ROH and I love working with them. It’s been a great relationship and there’s a lot of trust between the parties.”
Last year, the stars of AEW and NJPW collided in a multiverse of matches to bring forth the inaugural AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door. In the main event, Jon Moxley took on Hiroshi Tanahashi to crown the interim AEW World Champion in the wake of the injured champion at the time, CM Punk. “Switchblade” Jay White also put his IWGP World Championship on the line, retaining the title in a four-way match against “Hangman” Adam Page, Adam Cole, and Kazuchika Okada.
NJPW will soon link up with IMPACT Wrestling to present their Multiverse United: Only The STRONG Survive event on March 30.
