Kenny Omega wants to bring his IWGP United States Championship to America.
Omega, a former AEW World Champion, defeated Will Ospreay to win the title at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17. He remains signed to AEW, and while it’s unclear when he will next compete in an NJPW ring, “The Best Bout Machine” would like to potentially put the title on the line in AEW.
Speaking with Tokyo Sports, Omega was asked about his future championship defenses, and he made it clear that he wants to have the title matches in both NJPW and AEW.
“I would like to do it either in New Japan or AEW. When I was the U.S. Champion (the first time), many of my defenses were in Japan,” Omega said. “So I would like to do it not only in the U.S. but also in Japan.”
Omega also described some of his other goals; he stated that he has his sights set on the IWGP World Championship, and he also wants to face Shingo Takagi.
“I want to challenge for the IWGP World Championship, but I also want to fight Shingo Takagi someday,” Omega said. “The match between myself and Keisuke Ishii versus Takagi & YAMATO at Dragongate ‘DDG COMES BACK’ (June 5, 2012) before I first joined New Japan was a very interesting match. Since then, I always thought I could have a good singles match with him… I didn’t have a chance when I was in New Japan, but now Takagi is also at the top. I think it’s the best timing.”
Additionally, Omega noted that he is interested in facing El Desperado and Hiromu Takahashi.
