Stephen Amell wants to wrestle again but he sees it happening under certain circumstances.
Filming for Season 2 of Heels wrapped earlier this summer, but information on a potential release date has been limited, at best. Stephen Amell — who plays Jack Spade on the show — recently revealed that tie-ups with STARZ and Lionsgate over ownership have delayed the process. Whenever the series returns for its premiere, though, Amell has a specific vision for its promotion.
“I want to [wrestle] again,” he said during an appearance on Inside Of You with Michael Rosenbaum. “I need to make sure that I will be — you asked earlier if I would be upset or devastated, what have you, if there wasn’t a season three of Heels. The thing that would really If there wasn’t a season three of Heels, the thing that I would really, really, really have a problem with is if we didn’t get a season three and I didn’t do everything that I could promoting season two,” he said.
“I think that everything that I can do [to promote it] will involve me being back on television, doing some wrestling in some way, shape or form,” With Amell’s hope for the series to renew for a season three, he vowed to successfully lead into season two.
Mixed with his desire to wrestle again, Amell hopes to tag team with a former friend, and foe, Cody Rhodes. The two first met during the buildup to WWE SummerSlam in 2015. There, Amell teamed with Neville to defeat Rhodes and Wade Barrett. Two years later, the Heels star found himself in Rhodes’ corner, joining the Bullet Club at ROH’s Survival of the Fittest event — teaming with Rhodes, Kenny Omega, and The Young Bucks, to take on Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, Scorpio Sky, and Flip Gordon. Amell would, again, end up on the winning side.
“I tag teamed against him [at SummerSlam],” Amell noted, hinting that he would like to stand on the same side of the ring as Rhodes this time around.

Outside of Heels, Stephen Amell had a notable run in The CW series Arrow as Oliver Queen, spanning the series’ entire eight seasons. Several spin-offs of the show soon followed, all interconnected in the Arrowverse franchise. When asked if he’d appear in one of the current shows in the Arrowverse, Stephen Amell expressed interest, but under the right circumstances.
“It would all depend. The storyline, less so the money,” he admitted. “It would more come down to — I like going online and I like seeing reaction videos, right? When fans see something in a television show that they like. So I would think to myself, ‘as a fan of whatever show, how pumped would I be if so-and-so character just appeared?’ So from that, from that angle, I’d probably be like, ‘Yeah, let’s do it.’ But again, it depends on the show.”
“I know how it works,” he continued, “because I’ve been on the other side of helping someone with this negotiation, so I know precisely how it goes. There would never be a conversation about money. It would be a conversation about story.”
Update: Amell has since been confirmed as returning to the Arrowverse, as he will appear as Oliver Queen in the ninth season of The Flash. Amell will appear in episode 909, which marks his first appearance as the character since the Arrow series finale in January 2020.
