Kurt Angle says he thinks Ricochet could be the future.
Ricochet signed with WWE in 2018 and joined the main roster in 2019 after a successful run on NXT. His time on the main roster began with some positive momentum, as he won the WWE United States Championship, but it fizzled out. The fan-favorite star has had a bounce-back year in 2022, as he won the WWE Intercontinental Championship, and he has been reestablished as a prominent member of the SmackDown roster. He won the SmackDown World Cup and lost to Intercontinental Champion Gunther in a hard-fought match on the December 16 episode of SmackDown.
Speaking on the newest episode of The Kurt Angle Show, the WWE Hall of Famer was asked to name someone who he thinks could be the future of wrestling, or at least have a great career. In response, Angle brought up Ricochet and noted that the SmackDown star reminds him of a superhero. He also praised Ricochet’s athleticism and his in-ring skills. Angle noted that Ricochet is somewhat undersized, but he pointed out that Rey Mysterio has overcome that perceived obstacle and carved out a legendary career.
“I would love to see someone like Ricochet get that opportunity. I think he could be the future,” Angle said. “He reminds me a lot of a superhero. My wife puts him over a million times. She thinks he’s incredible, just because of the stunts he can do. He’s a great in-ring wrestler. He’s not just a stuntman, he’s a technician too, [and] he knows all his stuff.
“I think someone like him, good looking guy, giving him an opportunity to be at the front, where Roman Reigns is, I don’t know if it will ever happen because to a certain degree, he’s a little bit undersized, but look at Rey Mysterio, what he was able to accomplish. He was main-event all the time, so I don’t see why Ricochet couldn’t do the same thing.”
