Matt Taven knows first-hand that Shane Taylor is someone that people shouldn’t sleep on.
Matt Taven recently spoke with WrestleZone and the former ROH World Champion was asked for his thoughts on seeing Shane Taylor making his IMPACT debut. Taylor, a former ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champion and ROH World Television Champion, is a name that many fans have called on promoters to feature on their respective shows.
IMPACT brought in Taylor at its recent television tapings in Texas, and Taven previewed what IMPACT fans can expect from Taylor.
“You’re going to see one of the best strikers in professional wrestling today. Shane Taylor is a guy that — for me, I feel so bad that there’s a handful of guys that were really coming into their own towards the end of Ring Of Honor [under Sinclair ownership] there. Vincent had a title shot lined up, Shane Taylor was on a roll. Guys like Dak Draper coming up big, but Shane Taylor was one of those guys that had established himself so much with STP and everyone knew him as a great six-man champion,” Taven explained, “but he was one of those guys that was about to break out again. He had an incredible [ROH World Television Championship] run in 2019, but he was one of those guys that was about to break out again and be a serious contender for the world title.
“And just the way the wrestling business is, the world can get flipped upside-down on you pretty quickly but Shane Taylor is so good that here he is, back again,” Taven proclaimed. “And if I was IMPACT Wrestling, I would be making a move to lock up Shane Taylor because he’s one of the top talents out there today.”
Taylor makes his debut in singles action against Crazzy Steve of Decay but Taven, one-half of the new IMPACT World Tag Team Champions, said he wouldn’t turn down a tag team match with him either.
“We always have an open door policy for a guy like Shane Taylor. The guys and girls that came from Ring Of Honor, I think we’ll always kinda look out for one another. And I’m just a competitive guy as it is,” Taven said, “so if [he] starts talking trash about me, it wouldn’t take long before he found himself on the opposite end of the OGK.”
