A rematch for the Undisputed AEW World Championship will reportedly take place at AEW All Out.
On this week’s edition of Dynamite, Jon Moxley battled CM Punk to unify the AEW World titles. Punk seemingly re-aggravated his previously injured foot early on after hitting a head kick on Moxley. This allowed Moxley to capitalize and land two Death Rider DDTs, and score the pinfall. From bell to bell, the match totaled about three minutes and therefore Jon Moxley is the new Undisputed AEW World Champion.
Now, a rematch will reportedly be in order for Sunday, September 4th at the All Out pay-per-view. According to F4WOnline’s Dave Meltzer, Jon Moxley and CM Punk will collide in the main event of All Out as Moxley will defend his newly obtained Undisputed AEW World Championship.
In speaking at the beginning of the Wrestling Observer Radio‘s post-AEW Dynamite edition this week, Meltzer stated that the rematch will main event the pay-per-view. However, Meltzer revealed he wasn’t certain if AEW would add a stipulation to the rematch or when the company will officially announce it.
As of this writing, AEW nor President Tony Khan have released any official statements regarding this reported rematch.
Wednesday’s title loss marked the first time since June that CM Punk had competed in a ring. Earlier this summer, he teamed with FTR in a trios match that resulted in a foot injury. Consequently, this injury forced him out of action for a couple of months. In addition, the injury came days after winning the AEW World Championship from “Hangman” Adam Page at Double or Nothing.
Jon Moxley would then become the Interim AEW Champion in Punk’s absence. At Forbidden Door, Moxley defeated Hiroshi Tanahashi in a tournament final to claim the gold on June 26th.
