An undisputed AEW World Champion was crowned on the August 24 episode of AEW Dynamite.
In what was labeled one of the biggest matches in AEW Dynamite history, AEW World Champion CM Punk made his in-ring return from injury to take on AEW Interim World Champion Jon Moxley to determine a true champion. Unfortunately for Punk, he may have returned too soon.
CM Punk kicked Moxley so hard early on, it aggravated his foot injury. Punk sold his left foot for the rest of the match, which ultimately led to Jon Moxley pinning Punk in under ten minutes to officially win his second AEW World Championship.

Punk returned to AEW on August 10 and then confronted Moxley on August 17 where the two cut intense promos to sell their inevitable match. After a brawl broke out, AEW announced that we would not wait for AEW All Out to determine the one, true titleholder. It remains to be seen what’s to come for both Moxley and Punk.
