Sonny Kiss wants the LGBTQ+ community to be in the spotlight all year long, not just during Pride Month.
June is a time of LGBTQ+ celebration, and while some companies shine a light on it with pride-focused commercials, this spotlight is often limited to the duration of the month.
Speaking with Hollywood Life, AEW wrestler Sonny Kiss, who is featured in some of the promotion’s commercials, expressed her hope that all LGBTQ+ professional athletes will be pushed into mainstream outlets all year long.
“I would like to see all LGBTQ+ professional athletes, signed and unsigned, to keep being seen as sellable and pushed into the mainstream outlets all year round and not just during Pride Month,” said Kiss.
Pride Month is a celebration of the ongoing efforts to spread acceptance and awareness of the LGBTQ+ community. When asked about the vibe of this year’s Pride Month, Kiss described the general attitude and the overall goal.
“I think the overall vibe and attitude this year is – let’s just keep doing what needs to be done, and that’s delivering the message of what PRIDE truly is and means,” said Kiss. “Many people think it’s some sort of contest or a way to throw our identities/sexuality in people’s faces. We have PRIDE to celebrate triumphs, to educate people, to explore more about ourselves and others who may have had a similar journey – it’s a beautiful time of year.”
Kiss continues to compete on AEW Dark and Dark: Elevation, but she hasn’t appeared on Dynamite or Rampage since October 2020.
