Trey Miguel cheated to win the X Division Championship, but it’s all in the name of having fun.
WrestleZone recently spoke with new X Division Champion Trey Miguel, who won the title by winning a tournament final against Black Taurus at Over Drive last month. Trey used a can of spray paint to blind Taurus on his way to the win, but the new champion says that he’s looking out for himself and enjoyed the reaction to it so far.
“It’s been my favorite thing, scrolling online and seeing these reactions and seeing, ‘is this a heel turn or is he just being a rascal?’ And I cheated to win [laugh]. I cheated to win. How do I explain that? I sprayed a man in the face with a can of spray paint. That’s not only illegal to do in wrestling, but that’s toxic. My man had to probably go wash it out. He might be blind. I don’t really give a… but like for the past three years, I sat in this locker room and dressed myself like an asshole, and went out there and pandered to people and all this boring bull,” he explained.
“I’m just ready to have fun at anyone’s expense. Just do my thing right now, and if people wanna feel a certain type of way about it, that’s up to them. If they wanna like it, then that’s up to them too. But I’m done caring about that kinda stuff, you know what I mean? I just wanna have fun at my job. And, you know what was fun?” Miguel asked. “Spraying Black Taurus in the face with some spray paint.”
It was then noted that Eddie Guerrero was famous for his “Lie, Cheat, Steal” gimmick (and the Cheat 2 Win t-shirt), so it’s funny that fans might not have the same reaction to Trey’s actions. Trey agreed that they should keep that same energy but noted that fans won’t because “they pick and choose.”

Over Drive is in the past, so IMPACT will next look ahead to Hard To Kill in January. Trey Miguel doesn’t have a match on the show yet, but he does have an idea of how he can occupy his time and defend his title until then.
“Something that I’d love to do that I don’t feel like we do a lot of anymore, when I was first introduced to IMPACT Wrestling,” Miguel explained, “they were putting on X-Division matches that featured guys that were not currently signed with IMPACT Wrestling. It exposed you to a lot of faces that potentially could and should be on TV, but maybe just haven’t had their opportunity yet. So you were constantly getting all these different blends of matches, clashes of styles too. That’s something that I think would bring a lot of eyes to IMPACT wrestling and a lot of eyes to the X-Division and give a lot of guys that are good at this style a chance to show what they can do. You never know. We might book a Mike Bailey one week and find out like, ‘Oh, there’s a hidden gem that we had no idea about in the X-Division that now we need to get in here.’ That’s something that I don’t think I’ve seen them do in roughly about ten years or so. So I think that could be really cool to do. If I could pick anything, it would be to go a route like that.”
Former Rascalz partner Zachary Wentz (aka Nash Carter) recently worked a singles match against Trey Miguel on the independent scene. Asked if he’d like to face off with Wentz for the title, Trey said he welcomes any opportunity to work with Wentz, or any of the other Rascalz.
“In any facet, I could share a ring with Zach again, I’d love to. Whether it be tag teaming or smacking him in the back of the head and spray painting his hair green. I’d love to do either. Zach’s my favorite person in the world to share a wrestling ring with aside from Dez[mond Xavier] and Myron [Reed] and I’d never think twice about that opportunity if it presented itself.”
