Who says you can’t go home? Not Samoa Joe, that’s for sure.
Current Ring of Honor World Television Champion and All Elite Wrestling star Samoa Joe recently sat down with Chris Mueller of Bleacher Report to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about returning to Ring of Honor at Supercard of Honor, Joe said it’s something he cherishes because it’s an opportunity that not many people get to experience.
“Obviously, it’s always somewhat satisfying coming home and reentering a promotion that you were pretty largely responsible for kind of putting on the map,” Samoa Joe said. “Having that ability to come back to ROH and give back to them, especially in this critical time, it’s a rare opportunity that many people will never get to experience, so it’s one I cherish.”
On the April 13 episode of AEW Dynamite, Samoa Joe defeated Minoru Suzuki in the show’s main event to capture the Ring of Honor World Television Championship for the very first time. Joe had a lot of praise for the New Japan Pro Wrestling star following the matchup.
“Obviously, Suzuki is a very accomplished and dangerous individual in his own right,” Samoa Joe said. “When it comes to Minoru, he’s exactly what I expected. Just a hard-nosed, no B.S., in your face, ready to rock and roll. submission fighter from Japan. He is as billed and it’s always fun to get in there and knock around with guys who are made of granite. It’s a different kind of feeling. A lot of people can’t hang at that level, but Minoru makes it fun.”
Joe’s match against Suzuki was brutal, and it was one of the hardest-hitting matches in the history of AEW Dynamite. But Joe is feeling good following the match and is ready for the next challenge.
“We’re all good. Ready for 3,000 more [chops],” Samoa Joe said. “I mean, you know, you gotta understand I’ve been doing this a while. This tank has been taking shots for quite a while and the armor hasn’t broken yet. That may be torture and hell for the normal human being. That’s a day in the life of me. And that’s not even hyperbole. Bring that all day long. I’m ready for the war.”
