Jeff Cobb thinks it would be silly not to have Forbidden Door 2 this year, and he knows exactly who he’d like to face.
New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s Jeff Cobb was a recent guest on The Ten Count with Steve Fall to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about the potential of a Forbidden Door 2 event between All Elite Wrestling and New Japan in 2023, Cobb said it would be silly not to have another one because both companies would be leaving money on the table.
“Going back to last summer, when the first Forbidden Door happened, the response was really well. It was a sold-out United Center; it was amazing,” Jeff Cobb said. “So it’d be silly not to have another one because they would be leaving money on the table.
“I hope it happens again, although last year we did lose our tag team championships, although we didn’t get pinned. Definitely, I feel if Forbidden Door 2 happens, I definitely feel like I’d want to be a part of it, and I’d definitely want to change the outcome from last year.”
When asked who he’d like to face, Cobb named the current top two champions of Ring of Honor, Claudio Castagnoli and Samoa Joe.
“Somebody asked me this a while back when I did the Ring of Honor pay-per-view in December,” Jeff Cobb began. “Looking at some of the champions that they have, before I left Ring of Honor at the end of 2019, I was in line to get another Ring of Honor World Championship title shot. So why wouldn’t I want to do that again? Who’s the champ now, Cesaro? Why not? I’d love to fight him. Who’s the Television Champion right now, Samoa Joe?
“Last [time] when I was there, I had the Ring of Honor Television Championship, undefeated, and again I lost it in a multi-man match. I don’t know why management wants to put us in multi-man matches. They make no sense. But I didn’t lose. I didn’t get a rematch because the champ at the time was scared I was coming after him, but I ended up setting my sights on the heavyweight championship.
“So, in my mind, I’m still the Ring of Honor Television Champion. People always compare Samoa Joe to myself. I think that might be a Polynesian thing. But if I wanna fight somebody, Samoa Joe is a great person to fight.”
