Chris Jericho believes Cody Rhodes left All Elite Wrestling for the same reason he left WWE in 2017.
This morning, Chris Jericho was a guest on Busted Open Radio with Dave LeGreca and Bully Ray to discuss a wide variety of subjects. When asked about his feelings regarding Cody Rhodes departing All Elite Wrestling for WWE, Jericho admitted he was disappointed at first but understood it from Rhodes’ point of view.
“I was honestly disappointed that he left. But I get it,” Chris Jericho said. “I’ve done it many times myself. You know this; we discussed the reinvention of Jericho many times. I mean, I left WWE in 2017 for basically the same reason why Cody left AEW. From what I understand is that he just didn’t think he was getting the — I don’t know if it’s the spotlight or respect or whatever the word being, but you can kind of see the writing on the wall.
“So obviously, Cody now is bigger than he’s ever been just by changing companies, and obviously, they did a great job and putting him over at WrestleMania and bringing them in at the highest levels. And now it’s up to Cody to do the dirty work, shall we say, and continue that momentum and get that job done.
“Can he do it? Absolutely. He’s a very smart guy. He’s a great performer, but Cody’s also not just a student of the business. He’s a student of the behind-the-scenes of running the show, booking the show, the politics of wrestling, shall we say? So I think Cody is going to fit in there very good. We’re gonna miss him in AEW. But quite frankly, it was a shock when he left, and a week later, it’s almost like he never even existed. That’s just the way wrestling goes. We got to move on with our show and continue to do great stories and have great matches, and he’s got to continue to do his thing. So congratulations to him. God bless him, and I’m sure he’ll do great there.”
