Brian Cage says there’s a plan for his return to AEW television.
AEW surprised many fans when it reportedly picked up the option on his contract to keep “The Machine” under contract. The former IMPACT World Champion hasn’t been on AEW TV since October; his last match came on the October 8 episode of Rampage, when he lost to Ricky Starks in a street fight on AEW Rampage.
During an appearance on the Going Broadway Podcast, Cage stated that there’s a plan for his return to AEW TV, but he didn’t elaborate.
“All I can say, I guess, is there is a plan,” said Cage. “And I guess that’s about as much as I can throw around out there. So I guess we’ll wait and see.”
The powerhouse went on to describe how he’s been pitching ideas, which vary in complexity.
“I’ve pitched different ideas,” said Cage. “I know there was a couple ideas that changes up towards the end. But yeah, I’ve come up a couple different ideas, and I know there are different creative ideas. Some are more detailed than others, but I guess all I can say is that it’s all supposed to formulate into this plan that is underway.”
The former FTW Champion also made it clear that throughout his time away from TV, he has been interested in working with any number of wrestlers on the roster. He noted that he would have been satisfied with a simple match on AEW Dark or a short-term program with someone like Angelico, a competitor he has some history with.
“There’s a lot of big matches, maybe not big matches, but there’s matches I really want,” said Cage. “They don’t have to be, there’s no storyline needed. I could just go out there and have a match on Dark or something, just have more of a fun match. I’ve wanted to work so many different guys from Lucha Underground. Like a Jack [Evans] and Angelico, like, ‘h let me do something short’, especially if they’re not doing anything significant. Like it doesn’t have to be some big significant program, but just matches that I know I’d have a lot of fun with and we could do a lot of cool stuff with that a lot of people haven’t seen.”
Time will tell what Cage’s future holds, but it’ll be interesting to see how AEW incorporates him into its increasingly stacked roster.
