WWE NIL athlete AJ Ferrari and Oklahoma State track athlete Isai Rodriguez were involved in a serious car accident on Monday.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (via ESPN), Ferrari was the driver of a 2019 Dodge Durango with Rodriguez in the passenger seat at around 8:00 p.m. local time when he ‘attempted to pass 3 vehicles while cresting a hill’ and then Ferrari’s Dodge hit an oncoming vehicle which caused Ferrari’s truck to overturn several times before coming to a stop in a nearby ditch where it caught on fire. The official cause of the accident was listed as “passing in a no-passing zone.”
The driver of the other vehicle, 56-year old Valenda McKee was not injured while Ferrari and Rodriguez were both transported to a Oklahoma City hospital and treated for minor injuries and were listed to be in ‘fair condition’. Ferrari’s father later posted an update on Facebook and said it appeared that his son had no broken bones, but did have some fluid in his lungs and some internal bleeding.
Ferrari is the reigning NCAA Champion in the 197-pound weight class and was signed to WWE’s ‘Next In Line’ program in December 2021. WWE announced the first 15 names signed as part of its new NIL program, which included Ferrari and Haley and Hanna Cavinder.
