Drew McIntyre On Moving To WWE SmackDown: It Will Complete My Comeback Story, I Have ‘Unfinished Business’

Drew McIntyre will move to WWE SmackDown once the changes caused by the WWE Draft take effect on October 22, and this shift will end his remarkable run on WWE RAW.

For the last year and a half, “The Scottish Warrior” has been the face of the red brand; he carried it throughout the height of the pandemic era and won the WWE Championship twice during this stretch. For this reason, it’s hard to imagine him jumping to the blue brand, but because he did everything he could on RAW, it was time for a change.

In an interview with Steven Muehlhausen of DAZN News, which was recorded ahead of the WWE Draft, McIntyre explained how his triumphant comeback story in WWE would truly be complete with a move back to SmackDown. In 2009, Vince McMahon personally heralded McIntyre as “The Chosen One” on the blue brand, but “The Scottish Warrior” didn’t fully reach his potential until his victory over Brock Lesnar at WWE WrestleMania 36. For this reason, McIntyre made it clear that he would welcome another run on the SmackDown.

I really do think that’d be the case,” said McIntyre. “I’m very proud of everything I was able to do on RAW especially being champion at the height of the pandemic and leading the charge but at the same time working hard for everyone else to make sure everybody was entertained during those difficult times and be a leader. But if I did end up on Smackdown for me personally, there is unfinished business, so that could be very interesting.”

Before he trades his proverbial red RAW shirt for its blue SmackDown counterpart, McIntyre seemingly has one final score to settle on Monday nights. At the end of last week’s show, he confronted WWE Champion Big E, so it’s possible “The Scottish Warrior” will seek to regain the title before he joins the SmackDown roster. In this potential storyline with Big E, a beloved babyface, fans have predicted that McIntyre will revert to his heelish roots.

In the interview, the former champion stated that he’s going to do whatever feels right for him, and it’ll be up to the fans to decide how they respond.

I’m going to go with the flow and see what happens, and the fans will react accordingly,” said McIntyre. “Everything I do, I don’t see it as like, ‘I’m a bad guy now’. Whatever my motivation is the fans are going to react accordingly to whatever perhaps I’m feeling at the time. Sometimes they’re going to agree. Sometimes they’re going to disagree. But I’m always going to do what I feel is right for me.

“I’ve been around for over 20 years. I’m going to do what feels right for Drew McIntyre. If they cheer, that’s cool. If they boo, that’s cool. But a program between Drew McIntyre and Big E, that’d be pretty exciting. As Big E likes to say, ‘Two big guys slapping meat is an easy story to sell.'”
