Liv Morgan: Becky Lynch Told Me That I’d Be The Champion Before She Left, And I Want To Live Up To That

At WWE Extreme Rules, Liv Morgan wants everyone to watch her reach the next level when she faces Carmella.

This bout will be Morgan’s second singles match on a pay-per-view, and during an interview with Rick Ucchino of Sportskeeda Wrestling, she shared her excitement ahead of the show on Sunday.

“I’m really excited. I feel grateful for the opportunity,” said Morgan. “I’m really excited to have my second-ever singles pay-per-view match. [I] ove that it’s against Carmella because we’ve been having issues since Money in the Bank, you know, so I’m looking at this as a way to just settle it.

“Hopefully I don’t have to hear from her again for a while. But I do have to get through Friday first. Friday I have a match with Zelina Vega, which she kind of just you know, volunteered herself for. So I have quite a bit to do before I get to Sunday, but I’m excited for both. I can’t wait.”

Morgan acknowledged that there have been a few points in her WWE run where she has felt like her breakout momentum was imminent. Though she still hasn’t climbed the ladder to the next rung as a champion, she made it clear that she hopes that this hot streak will eventually lead to her ultimate triumph.

“I feel like the past two years of my career I’ve had moments where I feel like I’ve had so much momentum and I’m just about to break through, then I don’t,” said Morgan. “I do feel like this time is different. You know, I like to think positively and I’m very glass-half full, so when I look back, I’m like maybe I wasn’t as ready as I thought, and that’s why I didn’t break through. You know, and maybe I wasn’t as, even though I wanted it just the same, maybe I just wasn’t ready as a performer.

“But now you know, I feel so much more I guess well-rounded that I’m just ready. I’m ready for that top spot, I’m ready to be that girl and so I definitely feel like after money in the bank, I’m just gonna keep the momentum going until I’m SmackDown Women’s Champion, or RAW. We have a draft coming up, who knows?”

Speaking of the championship, Morgan revealed that, before Becky Lynch went on hiatus due to her pregnancy, she told the SmackDown star that she’d be holding the gold by the time “The Man” came around again. Morgan expressed her disappointment about the fact that she didn’t win the title during Lynch’s absence. But she also looked at the current landscape as an opportunity to prove Lynch right; “The Man” came back at WWE SummerSlam and promptly won the title, and Morgan said she would love nothing more than to win the title from Lynch herself.

“So I’m saying goodbye [to Lynch], I go to hug her and as I’m hugging her, she just whispers in my ear that when she comes back, I’m gonna be the champion,” said Morgan. “And that’s something I thought about, almost every single day. You know, and she came back, and I wasn’t the champion. I’m not the champion.

“And it’s like a weird feeling. It’s not that I’m disappointing Becky, but just to know that that was like an expectation, and I didn’t meet it. But I know that I will meet it eventually. I’m on well on my way, but I would love to prove her right and to prove her wrong, you know, and I would love to win the title off of Becky.”
