NXT Breakout Tournament Finals Set For 8/24 WWE NXT, Updated Card

Carmelo Hayes will face Odyssey Jones to determine the next breakout star of NXT.

Duke Hudson was positioned as the favorite to win on the 8/17 episode of NXT when he took on the underdog Hayes in the semi-finals of the NXT Breakout Tournament. Hudson dominated the match throughout the commercial break, but Hayes turned the tide briefly. Hudson hit a big lariat in the corner and suplexed Hayes over his head to careen him into the center of the canvas. Hayes fought on, though, and planted Hudson with an apron DDT to level the playing field.

Hayes almost got the win shortly thereafter, but Hudson managed to kick out of several pin attempts. The crowd was fully behind Hayes as he jumped off the top for a fameasser. He nailed it and covered Hudson for the pinfall win.

After the match, Hayes talked about facing Odyssey Jones next week. Hayes said he kept his word to the fans and just like the video games, he’s gotta face the final boss, but there’s a plot twist: he is the final boss. Jones came out to the stage and laughed at that notion. The two men talked trash to each other, setting the stage for the tournament finals for next week’s episode of NXT.

Additionally, a six-man bout between Hit Row and Legado del Fantasma, two warring factions, has been announced for next week’s show.

The updated card is as follows:

  • NXT Breakout Tournament Finals: Duke Hudson vs. Odyssey Jones
  • Hit Row ( Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, Ashante “Thee” Adonis and Top Dolla) with B-FAB vs. Legado del Fantasma ( Santos Escobar, Joaquin Wilde and Raul Mendoza)
