Gail Kim is retired, but Mickie James knows the value of the legend’s presence.
IMPACT Wrestling released an exclusive video of James thanking Kim for helping to settle the waters between her and Deonna Purrazzo in order to get The Virtuosa to appear at the NWA Empowerrr pay-per-view. Gail was more than happy to do so, and her longtime friend was more than happy to ask for Kim’s aid in “leading the charge” at the all-women’s event. Kim said she didn’t even need to ask before the two friends embraced.

Mickie initially surprised fans with her appearance at Slammiversary after Purrazzo defeated a very viable contender in Thunder Rosa. Purrazzo took major exception to Mickie overshadowing her victory and it initially appeared that she wouldn’t be feeling “empowered” to attend. That changed however when Kim stepped in the following Thursday. So far it’s just Kim and Purrazzo of IMPACT attending Empowerrr but all that could change before the event comes to air.
Mickie James recently spoke with WrestleZone and revealed the team of producers she’s working with behind-the-scenes to help put EmPowerrr together. James said she aligned with several notable names in the wrestling business and revealed Kim, Madusa and LuFisto, plus Brent Tarring and Jazz were on board in building the show. James confirmed they’d be considered agents and explained how they’ve aided her in the process.
“They’re the ones sitting at the table with me making these decisions, helping to build the vision for each person. It’s a lot of work, especially because it’s all these women that haven’t necessarily had a spotlight put on them. And to really showcase who they are, we need to do that and I’m one person. I need the right people in there to guide that vision of what that is. I’m excited,” James stated. “I feel like I couldn’t have picked a better team to stand alongside. I think we all want the same thing, especially for women’s wrestling and it’s exciting. It’s exciting and it’s a good core group of people who are well-respected in the business.”
