Ace Romero is not only looking to build his brand with IMPACT Wrestling, but he also hopes to walk away from the Vacationland Cup tournament this weekend as the new Limitless Wrestling Champion.
Romero recently spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard ahead of Saturday’s Limitless Vacationland Cup 2020 tournament, where this year’s winner will also become the new champion due to Anthony Greene being signed by NXT. Romero faces off with Alec Price in the first round of the tournament, airing on IWTV this Saturday, and he says he’s feeling good going into this year’s tournament after making it to the finals last year.
“I’m feeling really good. For those of you who don’t know, Limitless Wrestling is a company that’s been around for six years now. It was really the first company in New England to put their stock in me. I have been there since day one and I still continue to wrestle there obviously. Right now we’ve got a vacant Limitless title right now, and I worked my butt off to help build the company towards then pre-COVID, from nothing to where we were at, it’s pretty special.”
“I’ve got my eyes set on the title. I feel like it’s mine to win. I lost the tournament last year, but I went to the finals. This year, I have to face a guy by the name of Alec Price, and we’ve wrestled twice so far. This is the rubber match and I’m not going to let him stop me. I’m gonna go through him and I’m going to make it to the finals and this time I’m going to get what I deserve and what I rightfully earned.”
Through the help of promotions like Beyond Wrestling and Limitless, New England has been gaining more recognition as a regional wrestling scene. Romero acknowledged that it might not have always been the case, but he continues to come home because of good competition and opportunity.
“I’m from Maine and for the longest time, New England has always had good wrestling but it’s had its ups and downs. Maine definitely did not have a good reputation back in the day for good professional wrestling and wrestlers for that matter, and for me, I felt for me to better myself where I didn’t get stuck in the bubble which people tend to do by settling for what they’re doing, I needed to get out. I moved to the Midwest where the territory was hot, but
I never forgot about New England because New England still is a hotbed for some of the best wrestlers in the game right now. There’s so many wrestlers that came out of New England that have gone on to AEW, NXT, IMPACT. I think New England has been a sleeper, but it’s always had really good talent.”
