Sami Callihan is starting to see the benefits of The Design.
Sami Callihan spoke with WrestleZone’s Bill Pritchard about joining The Design in IMPACT Wrestling. Callihan looked initially reluctant to shave his head on television, but now says he’s seeing the benefits of being bald.
“I feel like I’m way quicker now. I feel like If I took my pants off more often, I’d be way quicker and more aerodynamic. And for those that don’t know, great reference from an awesome movie called Orange County,” Callihan joked. “It’s one of those things in IMPACT Wrestling where I’ve pretty much done everything there is to do, and I love being able to tell different types of stories. Right now with this story, I think stay tuned because you all are in for a crazy ride, and we’ve just scratched the surface of what this entire thing will be.”
Sami Callihan talked about the history of The Design, a stable that originated as Violent By Design with Eric Young. Callihan said that he actually helped move things along by roughing up Eric Young a few months back, and that now sets up the stable to get a shot in the spotlight.
“Now, Deaner gets to show the world exactly what he’s capable of. To be honest, from an outlook in, I think Deaner is an extremely underrated performer. To be able to go from what he did in the early 2000s being the white-trash redneck character to being what he is now, I don’t think people give him enough credit for how good he really is,” Callihan stated. “I really think over the next couple of months, more and more people are going to be jumping on that Deaner bandwagon.
“I think he’s gonna surprise a lot of people. Deaner is one of those guys—being in the ring fighting him, being beside him, doing what we’re doing currently is something— I knew he was good, but I don’t think I knew how good he was until I was in the ring with him,” Callihan said. “He truly is good, understands professional wrestling, has an outlook on the world that I think a lot of people would agree with if they gave him the time and listened.”
Sami Callihan said that level of talent doesn’t stop with the defacto leader of the group, either.
“And not only Deaner, you look at that entire crew. Angels is a guy that recently came to IMPACT. Young guy, has a ton of potential, and the sky’s the limit for him. Then you have Kon, who’s one of the biggest human beings I’ve been around in my entire life. People forget that at one point in his career, he was in one of the most over acts in professional wrestling,” he added. “The Ascension, at point, was renowned. Everyone loved The Ascension. And because certain things happened, it might have lost some of its luster. I, for one, am happy to have him in IMPACT Wrestling so the rest of the world can see what’s capable of as well. It’s not just me putting over IMPACT Wrestling. I don’t say stuff unless I absolutely believe it, and that’s something I truly believe. I would not be surprised if Angels is a guy holding the X-Division Championship in the very near future. He’s that talented.”
