Zelina Vega sure likes to keep the intrigue of story behind her persona. Vega was the latest guest on Chasing Glory with Lilian Garcia this week and she opened up about how her engagement to Aleister Black became public way before they wanted it to. She has no idea as to how word spread so quickly online as she initially kept it between her Aleister and a very select party. One of the first few to know happened to be Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.
“We look at them as like parents. We call Triple H ‘Papa H’ and Steph like ‘Mama Steph,'” Vega told Lilian. “I remember when I first told Hunter who was like, ‘Wait, you guys are together?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, and we’re getting married!’ And he’s like, ‘Wait, so you and Andrade? Wait, what?’ He was like so confused and I was like, ‘No…’
“He was just like, ‘Well, you fooled me. I had no idea.’ He was like, ‘Oh, my babies are getting married. This is so cool!’ He was so happy and so supportive and at that point we had just told them and then a few days after, like it kind of slipped out in front of a few friends and then later it was like my mom and then also Terry Taylor came to the wedding, right? At the wedding we said, ‘I know you guys are taking pictures and I’m so glad that you guys are here and having fun but please don’t post anything on social media. We want to try and keep this just here. And then we went to NXT like literally that next week and he was like, ‘Oh, my favorite married couple!’ And I was like, ‘Terry!’ So I don’t know. It could’ve been just a few things, but also I know that people (especially them dirt sheets) can look it up online and see. I guess marriage certificates and all that is online like for public stuff so I think that’s probably happened, but, yeah, it was kind of funny.”
Lilian asked Zelina why she wanted to remain so secretive about their marriage and one of the reasons she gave because she didn’t want it to disrupt any semblance of on-air storyline, particularly since Aleister happened to be one of Andrade’s biggest enemies. She said while she and Black love one another, their on-air personalities don’t share that same sentiment. Although if you did look closely during that feud, you could pick up on a few clues she was sending.
“I like doing stuff like that. Keeping things for just us, you know what I mean? I guess kind of like an Easter egg. If you know you know, but if not, then it’s just follow the storyline and get sucked into the cinematic adventure we were going to bring you on.”
There were initial plans to have Andrade drop his U.S. Title to Aleister and they were going to incorporate a bit of Zelina’s relationship “confusion” into the television product, but it never came to pass.
“One got hurt and there was another whole thing but yeah, so I wanted to keep the reality of people believing that more than anything else so it’s nice to keep it just for us, but also to keep the storylines so fresh and believable.”
