Zelina Vega recalls her first with Trish Stratus.
Throughout her WWE tenure, Zelina Vega has successfully settled into her role as a heel. Unafraid to rile up the crowd, Vega takes pride in her work as a “bad guy” in professional wrestling. “The louder they boo you, the better of a job you’re doing,” Vega told Anna Faris Is Unqualified.
Growing up as a fan, Vega found herself immersed in the works of those she saw on screen. Two of those figures included Lita and Trish Stratus. Upon her first meeting with Stratus, Vega recalled the first words she uttered to the WWE Hall of Famer. “When I met Trish Stratus, [she] was one of the people that influenced me a lot when I decided to do this. When I met her, for some reason, the first thing — because I was so nervous — the first thing I said was, ‘Oh my God, I hated you growing up,’ and she’s like, ‘Oh, thank you.’
“That interaction, to normal people, made absolutely no sense at all. But for us, it just made perfect sense,” she said. “It was just such a compliment to her because I was like, ‘Man, you really got me to hate you because I loved Lita so much and you just found ways to make me hate you.'”
Regarding her own character, Zelina Vega revealed the tactic she uses to draw in boos. “I will find the biggest fan of my opponent and just mess with them the whole time,” she said. “It’s so much fun.”
“I wrestled this girl named Candice [LeRae] and I just saw this one girl in the front that was just screaming at me because she loved Candice so much. I was like, ‘Oh, there she is,’ so once they identify themselves, it’s like, ‘Oh, [I got you].”
