Becky Lynch On Her Successful 2019, Being On The Cover Of WWE 2K20 And More

WWE RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch recently spoke with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated as part of the site’s This Week In Wrestling series. During the interview, Lynch reflects on her successful 2019 and why the women’s division has blossomed in recent years.  But first, the Man shared one regret she has from the historic WrestleMania 35 main event.

“‘If I could change anything from WrestleMania, I would have tried to freakin’ sink on that arm bar'”, said Lynch via Barrasso. “’Make Ronda Rousey tap out for the first time in her life.’” Still, the victory over Rousey helped solidify Lynch’s rise to the top of the WWE women’s division. Speaking of which, Lynch named compelling, personal storytelling as a major reason she feels the division has reached new heights in recent years.

“‘Friendships were on the line, there was betrayal, and I really do think that what we were allowed to do in NXT transformed what we do in WWE now,'” said Lynch via Barrasso. “‘Being able to have that platform where we could have longer matches, where we could tell engaging stories, and our gender was never a limitation, which it seemed to have been on the main roster.'”

Lynch also talked about sharing the cover of WWE 2K20 with Roman Reigns. “‘It’s unbelievable to be on the cover of WWE 2K20, it means anything is possible,'” said Lynch via Barrasso. “’We’ve never had a woman on the cover, so it proves that taking risks pays off. It was a risk for me to be more controversial and outspoken, trying to rile up people as opposed to trying to befriend people.'” Lynch said she often tries to cultivate conflict in order to shake thing sup, which can be a pretty divisive pattern of behavior. “‘Sometimes that’s taken the wrong way,'” said Lynch via Barrasso. “‘Some people get it, some people don’t. But 2K gets it, and it got me on the cover.’”
