At WWE Extreme Rules, Drew Gulak defended his Cruiserweight Championship against former champion Tony Nese. Gulak won the title at WWE Stomping Grounds when he pinned Akira Tozawa in a triple threat match that also included Nese. In this match between the new champion and the man who lost the title, Gulak retained the championship in front of his home state fans.

Gulak dropkicks Nese as soon as the bell rings. Nese tries his apron cartwheel but Gulak destroys him with a clothesline off the apron. Nese kicks out. Nese German suplexes Gulak into the corner. Gulak escapes the running Nese. Gulak gets hung up in the ropes on the apron. Nese hits a moonsault off the second rope onto the hanging Gulak. Nese goes up top. Nese hits a 450 splash. Gulak kicks out! Nese and Gulak trade chops. After a series of counters, Gulak reverses Nese’s sunset driver into a powerbomb hold. Nese kicks out. Gulak hits the Cyclone Crash for the victory!
