David Finlay had an easy choice to make.
WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard spoke with The Dogs’ David Finlay, Clark Connors and Gabe Kidd about linking up in AEW. The trio previously worked together in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, where they were members of the Bullet Club and War Dogs stable. Kidd showed up in AEW first, followed by Connors.
Finlay was rumored to be joining WWE. Despite the speculation, he ultimately joined AEW and debuted on the March 4 episode of Dynamite. Finlay was asked about rumors that he might join WWE. He said the decision was simple; he stuck with the two men that he’s already made plenty of money with.
“Let’s see, I was in New Japan for 11 years, and every single year there were rumblings that I was going to leave. Every single year, they kept growing louder and louder. Finally, I got over doing a 14-hour flight four times a month and decided I wanted to leave Japan behind,” Finlay explained.
“Obviously, I’ve got family ties in another company, and I sat and thought about it,” Finlay continued. “I was like, well, you know, I’ve never made a dime with my brother. I’ve never made a dime with my father. And I’ve made fat stacks of cash with these boys here. So the choice was easy.”
David Finlay is spittin’ bars
Finlay, of course, was referring to his father, Fit Finlay, and brother, Uriah Connors (Brogan Finlay), working in WWE. Pritchard noted how the chatter about his family ties probably only amplified after they both aligned with William Regal on NXT. However, The Dogs scoffed at that being of any importance.
“F*ck his dad, bro. He’s not in the Dogs,” Gabe Kidd said. “Yo, f*ck everyone who’s not in The Dogs or the Death Riders, bro. Straight up.”
“My dad’s greatest accomplishment is the fact that I came out of his nut sack,” David Finlay replied. “That is the greatest thing he’s ever accomplished.”
“That’s a crazy bar, but it is a bar,” Kidd added.
“Put it on the gravestone, I don’t care,” Finlay said.
The Dogs made their official trios debut on the March 7 episode of AEW Collision, making quick work of Cosmo Orion, GMO Kaminari & Jaden Monroe. Kidd and Finlay will be in tag team action against Orange Cassidy and Darby Allin on Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite.
