No one could have portrayed the physical role of Sweet Tooth better than Samoa Joe.
All Elite Wrestling’s Samoa Joe spoke* with WrestleZone’s Managing Editor Bill Pritchard. When asked if he had any challenges performing in the Sweet Tooth mask on the set of Twisted Metal, Joe said he thinks pro wrestlers are trained to emote beyond the mask.
“When you talk about masks especially, I think pro wrestlers are uniquely positioned to do better in those situations, oddly enough. Simply because, for the most part, wrestlers are training to emote beyond themselves, especially luchadors,” Samoa Joe said. “They’re trained to emote beyond the mask.
“You look at Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger; he’s probably one of the most expressive wrestlers in the history of our industry, covered head to toe. There’s an innate ability for a lot of us performers to pull off physical performances, especially when you have limited facial mobility.”
What Happens In Vegas…
Joe’s Sweet Tooth calls Las Vegas home on Twisted Metal. When asked if he has any fond memories of Las Vegas personally, Joe jokingly said most of his favorite moments are things he can’t repeat.
“I mean, I have a lot of favorite moments in Vegas. None of which I should probably say in this interview,” Joe quipped. “Yeah, Vegas is a really fun town, especially in the sense that you talk about one of the combat capitals of the world. I mean, it’s Las Vegas. Some of the biggest fights in the history of, definitely my generation, have occurred in Vegas.
“Its entertainment chops are really second to none. Match-wise, I don’t think I have anything too memorable. I just remember always having a good time with the Vegas crowd and the fans that we have there.”
Joe wrapped the interview by saying he hopes fans that watch Twisted Metal just enjoy it.
“I just hope fans get a chance to check out the show and enjoy it,” Samoa Joe said. “It’s definitely a fun watch all the way through, and I really look forward to seeing what everybody thinks.”
