Isenberg Reacts: WWE Battleground “Deadman Rises, Owens Thrives”

Sheamus vs. Randy Orton

wwe battleground

Both men grapple and separate, with Randy Orton getting a few kicks in and Sheamus applying a headlock and a few shoulder blocks. Orton elbows him and Sheamus rolls to the outside. Randy launches Sheamus into the barricade and both men get back into the ring. Orton hits about five uppercuts and then a kick to Sheamus’ stomach. Sheamus hits an Irish Curse backbreaker. He hits two more and really grounds The Viper.

Sheamus hits a high knee and a flying knee for two. Orton slides away and Sheamus hits the post hard. Orton clotheslines him over the top and then tries a DDT. They exchange blows and then a backbreaker on the announce table. Power slam and a two count keep the match going. Sheamus hits a rolling senton, sets up for a Brogue Kick. After a series of reversals, Orton gets dropped with White Noise. He fights back with a T-Bone Suplex and a superplex. He connects with a hanging DDT andgets the crowd on their feet. Sheamus hits a Brogue Kick out of nowhere. He locks in the Cloverleaf in the middle of the ring, with Orton clawing to escape. Orton hits RKO for the win.

We take both of these guys for granted. Yes, we have seen this match many times over the past few years, but it never ceases to amaze me how good their matches are. If built right, both of these men could be excellent opponents for Brock Lesnar. Sheamus could be because of his strength and Orton because of his speed, agility, timing and pace. This was the perfect beginning for a night that could be memorable. Randy needed the win. Sheamus still has the briefcase and a loss to Orton does not hurt him.
