WWE Needs To Choose Their Starter & Future Wisely

I write a wrestling column every Monday and Friday for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

The latest column looks at how WWE needs to choose their starter and future wisely. The following is an excerpt:

NFL hot topic RGIII, aka Robert Griffin III, left the Washington Redskins game against the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday with an injured ankle. It was time for his backup Kirk Cousins to replace him.

In WWE, Roman Reigns is viewed as the next franchise star, but I wonder how many WWE faithful are hoping for someone else?

Daniel Bryan? Dean Ambrose? A rising NXT star?

Bryan surged into the main event spot potentially pushing Batista aside this past year.

Things worked out OK for Batista at the box office in Hollywood, but not so much for Bryan, who faced injury early into his title reign.

NXT is hard to predict. A lot of talent is entertaining and buzz-worthy within the parameters.

NXT is an independent wrestling show with a WWE budget. There are worthwhile gambles of who the next megastar could be, yet not enough evidence to invest completely.

RGIII as an NFL quarterback is the stud, but now far removed from his replacement following him around in Cousins. The same can be said for Reigns in relation to Ambrose.
