Alex Shelley wants to face NJPW star Hiroshi Tanahashi at IMPACT x NJPW Multiverse United 2.
In a tweet, IMPACT shared a clip in which IMPACT World Champion Alex Shelley challenged Tanahashi to face him. The August 20 event will emanate from the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Tickets are available here.
Tanahashi is often called the “ace” of NJPW. He is an eight-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion and a three-time IWGP United States Champion, among other accolades. He currently holds the NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Championship with Tomohiro Ishii and Kazuchika Okada.
Tanahashi previously competed for IMPACT at the first Multiverse United event in March 2023. There, he defeated Mike Bailey. He also wrestled at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, where he lost to AEW World Champion MJF.
As of this writing, the between Alex Shelley and Hiroshi Tanahashi has not been confirmed.
IMPACT has officially announced one match for IMPACT x NJPW Multiverse United 2. IMPACT X-Division Champion Lio Rush and Trey Miguel will team up to face Hiromu Takahashi and Mike Bailey.
Alex Shelley’s Title Reign
Alex Shelley won the IMPACT World Championship for the first time at IMPACT Against All Odds. He beat Steve Maclin to win the title, and he later defended it against Nick Aldis at IMPACT Slammiversary.
Shelley will team up with KUSHIDA to face Moose and Brian Myers on the July 27 episode of IMPACT Wrestling. WrestleZone will have coverage of the show as it airs.
