Rob Van Dam comes to Ricochet’s aid amid social media controversy.
Former AEW National Champion Ricochet faced intense backlash after a tweet in which he referenced a fan’s medical condition. The controversy began when a fan criticized The Demand leader’s acting skills, prompting Ricochet to respond that he was glad the fan had multiple sclerosis (MS).
The post sparked widespread outrage, with some of the backlash spilling over onto Ricochet’s wife, Samantha Irvin, who reportedly received death threats and stepped away from social media for her safety.
Initially, Ricochet stood by his tweet, but he later issued an apology. He revealed that a close wrestling friend had reached out to advise him to reconsider the post. He also promised to be more mindful in the future. That friend was later identified as Chris Hero.
RVD reacts to Ricochet’s controversial tweet
On TMZ’s Inside the Ring, former WWE Champion Rob Van Dam offered his perspective on Ricochet’s remarks. RVD suggested that while Ricochet may have gone too far, the words weren’t much different from telling someone off.
“I think they went too far, you know. I’m not saying I got his back, but I think, ooh, big deal. Is it that much worse than saying, you know, ‘f*ck off and die’? I mean, that’s like, and nobody would care if you said that, right?” RVD said.
Responding to praise from the hosts for his viewpoint, RVD added, “Yeah, the different perspective I’ll go with, you know. Not always on the side of the wrestlers, but I do look at it differently than most people, and I expect to get a lot of hate for saying that, by the way.”
