Darby Allin is determined to conquer Mount Everest.
In April 2024, Darby Allin envisioned himself hiking up the snowy terrain of Mount Everest. Unfortunately, Allin’s month of April was instead spent on the sidelines as he recovered from a broken foot and injuries sustained from a collision he had with a bus. Despite the physical setback, Allin is hopeful that his Everest quest will come to fruition next year.
During a recent interview with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard, Allin was asked if he took on any additional training during his time off.
“Before I was supposed to go to Everest, I finished all the training programs, and everybody’s like, ‘Dude, you have exceeded any expectations. Knowing that you had zero amount experience, you’re so ready for this.’ But more training won’t hurt,” Allin said.
“In the time off, I’ve been able to do a lot of things, but it just the mental pain of sitting and watching the shows and knowing that you can’t be on them. That was hard. That’s why I also feel like I needed to come back so much because physically, I’ll put myself through anything physically, but mentally, the mental pain is way worse. If I have to sacrifice anything [at AEW Double or Nothing], let’s go for it.”
Darby Allin Will Not Be Deterred
“It’s interesting, but I’m definitely excited to do Mount Everest again next year. I’ve already got everything lined up. It’s just a matter of [putting] my head down and training and staying healthy and stuff. It’s going to be fun. But I think everything happens for a reason. If this wasn’t my year to do it, it wasn’t my year to do it, but I definitely am going to do it. I’m not taking this as a sign of being like, ‘Oh, maybe I wasn’t meant to climb Mount Everest.’ No, that’s not what this is about. I’m definitely climbing that mountain.”
While Allin’s mission to climb Mount Everest has been postponed to 2025, his return to the ring came together relatively quickly. On the May 15 episode of AEW Dynamite, AEW confirmed Allin as the replacement for Eddie Kingston in the AEW Double or Nothing Anarchy in the Arena match. Allin’s team ultimately lose that match as Jack Perry pinned Bryan Danielson to score the win for The Elite.
