DJ Whoo Kid tells his side of the story.
AEW All In London marked CM Punk‘s final appearance with the company as he reportedly had a backstage altercation with Jack Perry right before the show went live. The incident was enough for AEW President Tony Khan to claim he feared for his life and ultimately decided to fire Punk days later.
Specifics of the incident have largely been kept under wraps, however DJ Whoo Kid was apparently backstage and witnessed the exchange. During a recent appearance on Jim Norton & Sam Roberts, Whoo Kid explained his account of what went down. (H/t to Jeremy Lambert of Fightful for the transcription)
“You already know what happened in the back. It was straight brawl city,” Whoo Kid said. “I’m not gonna talk about that. Blood and killing and death [laughs]. You might as well say it. I was right there. We were next. They put us to be ready to go.”
“It was crazy. It’s ongoing they told me, this has been an ongoing…that was the last straw,” said Whoo Kid. “It was the biggest moment for AEW and I guess he was trying to sabotage that moment. He wasn’t trying to go out there. I’m in the middle. I’m the fly on the wall. It was very intense. I always thought it was fake and all this shit. It’s more real. It was wrestling back there. A DDT, everything. I’m exaggerating.”
Whoo Kid added, “There was a yelling moment where he was like, ‘F*ck this shit, this is our moment, everybody get the f*ck out there and do your shit.’ I was like, I don’t wrestle, but I was about to go out there. It was very intense. I will always respect wrestling after I saw that.”
It was noted that it was not Punk who was yelling, which has led to fans speculating that it was Tony Khan.
DJ Whoo Kid previously appeared at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam 2022 as a special guest ring announcer. He’s also been announced for an appearance alongside AJ Francis at TNA Hard To Kill on Saturday, January 13.
