The AEW Women’s World Championship changed hands on the August 2 episode of AEW Dynamite.
Wednesday’s show marked the 200th episode of AEW Dynamite. In the main event, Hikaru Shida challenged Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship. Despite plenty of interference from Saraya and Toni Storm, Shida persevered and pinned Storm to win the gold. She overcame taking spray paint to the eyes and being hit with a Storm before she stacked Storm up for the win.
Shida is now a two-time champion. Her previous reign was during the pandemic, as she beat Nyla Rose to win the title at AEW Double or Nothing 2020. Shida’s first reign lasted 372 days before Britt Baker dethroned her at AEW Double or Nothing 2021.
Storm’s reign spanned 67 days, and it marked her second title run. She defeated Jamie Hayter to win the championship at AEW Double or Nothing 2023 and defended the title three times on AEW programming.
