Monsters Ball with Jeff Hardy and Abyss

The match apparently gets underway in a stairwell, and Hardy slams Abyss’ head into a door before sending him out into the crowd. Abyss makes it to the ring but Hardy hits him with a chair, then Abyss tries to chokeslam him through a chair before sending Hardy into the steps. Abyss fills the ring with a bunch of weapons, then he wedges a chair in the corner before Hardy hits him in the head with a trash can. Hardy hits a diving forearm and a legdrop, then he hits Abyss with a chair and sets it up to splash Abyss on the floor. Abyss sidesteps and Hardy crashes through a table, then Abyss gets some thumb tacks but Hardy hits Abyss in the crotch with a cheese grater.
Abyss responds by whipping Hardy headfirst into a chair in the corner, then he gets “Janice” from under the ring and swings at Hardy with it. Abyss misses and gets it stuck in the turnbuckles, then Hardy drops him with a Twist of Fate before heading up top. The Revolution runs out and Manik crotches him on the ropes, then the rest of the group attacks before Matt Hardy runs out and hits them all with a kendo stick. Storm ends up getting free and hits him with a trash can, then he superkicks Matt before The Wolves run to the ring. The clear the ring with several kicks and a tandem suicide dive, then Matt tackles Storm on the floor as Abyss pours the thumb tacks on the mat. He punches Jeff a few times and tries to superplex him, but Jeff hits him and connects with a sunset flip powerbomb into the tacks, and hits a Swanton Bomb for the win.
I have to give credit to Bill Pritchard, who stole the words from my mind. I feel like every Monster’s Ball matches are the same these days. Abyss always tries to use Janice for the same spot, but ends up getting tossed into tacks. I liked the pacing of the match and liked that it was not just all “spots.” There was some actual wrestling in there and I credit Jeff Hardy for that. Although Jeff should be chasing a championship right now, I do think that he is getting some good mid-card feud from Abyss.
They are becoming a feud that is interesting to watch and unfold. I just hope they realize that Matt and Jeff are main event players in TNA. Heck, they could be main event guys in any company right now. Utilize them and let them help get the young guys over. Aside from Angle, they are the most established and important people for the company’s success.
The Middle of the Pack
Quick thoughts on some feuds continuing to brew:
EC3 and Spud:
These guys continue their feud and continue to avoid one another physically. Spud will have Mandrews to fight Tyrus at Lockdown. Interesting booking decision here, but I fear the push of Spud will ultimately affect Carter. He should NOT lose his first match to Spud. Rockstar Spud can come close, but leave it at that. No success story makes him even more likable and can move on without hurting your future.
Magnus and Bram:
Two friends are going to be able to work a really interesting program together. What will this lead to? Magnus has a briefcase that guarantees him a tag team championship match. Without Bram, I am not sure what TNA will do. Maybe Bram and Magnus get together in a few months to cash in that championship match. I just am not sure how they are going to feud and hate each other for a few months and then completely forget it and get back together. Maybe they can use the friends and enemies system, earning respect. Who else could Magnus team with?
