The city of Oakland won’t be interested in an XFL team after all.
Despite losing the home town Oakland Raiders to the city of Las Vegas, The Mercury News reports that Oakland has rejected the idea of pursuing an XFL team.
WWE CEO Vince McMahon reportedly showed interest in putting an XFL team in the Coliseum, the same stadium the Oakland Athletics play their MLB games.
Ultimately the XFL’s schedule conflicts with getting the A’s ready to play opening day.
Executive director of the stadium authority, Scott McKibben, told The Mercury News,
“There just isn’t any way we are going to be an impediment or obstacle to the A’s.”
McKibben also noted that the XFL’s schedule would directly interfere the with preparation of the Coliseum’s grass.
For those keeping track at home: the final score is lawn maintenance 1, XFL 0.
Christian Details Awkward Encounter W/ Raiders Coach Jon Gruden
On the latest edition of E&C’s Pod of Awesomenessformer WWE Superstar Christian detailed an awkward encounter with Raiders coach Jon Gruden,
“I remember one time I was backstage in Tampa and someone said to me, ‘Hey do you want to meet Jon Gruden.’ I thought they said Jon Drouin, who at the time was a player for the Lighting and was the third overall pick that year, was kind of a big deal; but, turns out he honestly wasn’t a big deal and he was kinda the sh*ts and they sent him packing to Montreal. But, at the time he was a big prospect. I was like, ‘Hell yeah I want to meet Jon Drouin!’ So I walk around the corner and was like, ‘Where is he?’ It was Jon Gruden. I went, ‘I’m good.’ I turned around and walked back.”
