Charlotte Flair recently spoke with Denise Salcedo for Instinct Culture at ESPN’s 4th Annual Sports Humanitarian Awards:
Charlotte talks about her experience shooting the Body Issue:
I got a black eye at Wrestlemania and I was like ‘of course I would get a black eye before the [Body Issue] shoot!’ I actually think it made it so much more raw and natural and real and it really goes to show that what we do as WWE Superstars isn’t fake. I walk around with my battle scars all the time.
I was really nervous at first, but after an hour I was like ‘yeah, I’m in the ESPN Body Issue as the first WWE Superstar. I’m going to rock it!’
Was any part of the shoot awkward?
Ummm, doing 45 naked moonsaults was awkward! Which is like doing the backflip in the air—like this is my worst nightmare! You know when you wake up and you’ve forgotten your shoes or something for work? I was like ‘[gasps] I forgot my ring gear!’
Charlotte Reveals Her Return Date
Charlotte comments on opening up about why she’s currently sidelined:
I’ve been off for four weeks, and I think it’s been one of those things where I just wanted to go, go, go, and I hadn’t taken a break since I debuted. This was my body telling me ‘OK, you need to take four weeks off.’ Technically six whole weeks, and I guess it’s just letting me re-evaluate, get eager again to be back and let the fans miss me. I don’t like taking breaks, but obviously with what happened—I’ve been so embarrased—I’m like ‘do I just embrace it and say this is what happened?’ This is real life. I spoke with Maria [Menounos] yesterday and I was like ‘so this is what happened, and if you have this problem… yeah…’ I was like ‘I’m not going to hide it.’
