At this point, we don’t know who will be inducting everybody into the 2018 class of the WWE Hall of Fame, but those announcements are suited very well for social media marketing.
If Hulk Hogan is going to induct Hillbilly Jim, it’s probably better not to make a big deal out of it on the air, as his reintroduction is still on testy waters.
It’s doubtful the WWE audience watching Raw or SmackDown will care considerably who is going to introduce Kid Rock, but if you’re looking for press coverage, a post on the WWE website will immediately create buzz for the target audience of bloggers and outlets trying to be the second or third with the scoop.
Even the remaining wrestlers yet to be confirmed for the two battle royals can be handwaved pretty easily, as that’s what has happened already, for the most part.
Lana was announced for the women’s battle royal in a YouTube video. Many people can follow suit. Breezango and Dolph Ziggler were confirmed by the commentary team before their quick match. There’s enough time on the shows to air a handful of those horrible selfie promo videos with the pop-up text wherein a bunch of people like Titus Worldwide and Absolution can declare themselves as participants.
Everybody else is either so insignificant (like Curt Hawkins) that they don’t need to be advertised in advance, or they’re better served as a surprise entrant, like how Killian Dain was a surprise last year. There’s even room for NXT to have a quick sixty second backstage promo with William Regal announcing anybody on that brand to take part in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, if WWE doesn’t want to keep it a shock.
Between the YouTube, Twitter, website, Facebook, Instagram, and just spontaneously having people show up in the ring, those Superstars are more than covered, and it doesn’t hurt those two matches, either, as the men’s match has never had much of a build to it and the women’s is primarily revolving around Bayley and Sasha Banks, which has had its fair share of attention already.
As someone who is usually very critical of WWE running out of time or dragging things out, this is a rare instance where I’m on the side that says you don’t need to worry about the state of WrestleMania 34 right now at the end of March.
In the next few days, all of the missing pieces of the puzzle will fall into place and there will still be enough unknowns to keep us from feeling like it’ll all be too predictable.
After WrestleMania is over and we can judge the execution of all these storylines paying off and the future of WWE for the next wrestling season, on the other hand, is still in question, but let’s enjoy the Road to WrestleMania while it’s still on our maps.
