Ronda Rousey has been absent from WWE TV in recent weeks, but according to a new report, she is in the company’s plans for WrestleMania 39.
Rousey last appeared on WWE programming on the December 30 episode of WWE SmackDown. She defended her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Raquel Rodriguez before Charlotte Flair returned and beat her in an impromptu title match. She missed the WWE Royal Rumble premium live event, and her status for WrestleMania seemed unclear.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that WWE has locked in a few matches for “The Showcase of the Immortals.” The company has already announced Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes and Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley. In addition to Bianca Belair defending the RAW Women’s Championship against the winner of the Women’s Elimination Chamber Match, Meltzer reports that Rousey and Shayna Baszler are set to challenge Damage CTRL for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.
Plus, Meltzer wrote that John Cena facing Austin Theory is set for the show, though it’s unclear whether it will be for the United States Championship. Cena is reportedly in Australia filming the Prime Video movie Ricky Stanicky, so he is not expected to be available for most of the build to WrestleMania.
Otherwise, the report addresses the rumored match between Edge and Finn Balor; Meltzer stated that WWE had planned a Hell in a Cell match between the two for Royal Rumble, but that was scrapped due to Edge’s schedule; he was filming the Disney Plus series Percy Jackson & The Olympians. Edge returned at Royal Rumble and attacked The Judgment Day to reignite his feud with the group.
Lastly, Meltzer reports that Brock Lesnar is scheduled for both WWE Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania 39. Lesnar returned on the January 23 episode of WWE RAW and attacked Bobby Lashley.
WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
