Likewise, when we have total confirmation of everything too far in advance, it’s harder to keep the audience’s interest without continually one-upping the previous thing they’ve seen, which is why we’re being kept in the dark for Braun Strowman’s partner.
His feud has a four-step approach to it:
- Etablish his dominance by earning the title shot
- Set up the idea that he needs a partner and that it’s a mystery who that person will be
- Reveal that mystery partner
- Execute the title change or have that partner cost him the match
The match itself happens at WrestleMania, so that can’t happen yet. Parts 1 and 2 are already established. The reveal of the partner is all that’s left and that’s the most interesting aspect of this whole thing, so why not save it until the last minute?
The Undertaker’s response to Cena and finding out Strowman’s partner are the two biggest reasons to tune into Raw next week, as nobody’s really going to care all that much in comparison to see a bunch of video packages reminding us of what we’ve already seen with the other feuds. There aren’t any other questions left unanswered with something like the Ronda Rousey match or the Intercontinental Championship. You’re either invested by now, or you don’t care, so there’s no need to appeal to you.
But you don’t know who Strowman’s partner is, and that’s a reason to want to check it out, because it could mean he’s forced to team up with Elias, or that he’s able to convince Kurt Angle to let him go solo, or that there’s an impending return of someone like Big Show or Mark Henry or Big Cass who can fill the role.
Even if the reveal doesn’t happen until WrestleMania itself, that will still be something that fans will be anxiously awaiting the announcement of, and it could create a fantastic moment when that person’s music hits and they make their entrance down what is sure to be a giant ramp.
For the most part, those are the two biggest missing components, as the rest of the absentees aren’t as important to the grand scheme of things.
