For example, John Cena started his WrestleMania story with a  quest to find “a match” of any sort. He lost the Royal Rumble, he lost the Elimination Chamber and he lost the Six-Pack Challenge, before finally just doing the obvious and challenging The Undertaker. Of course, this entire time, he ignored the idea that he could have thrown his name in the hat for the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, but we weren’t supposed to think of that, were we?

This story has been more about Cena than about The Phenom, so it’s following his perspective. Why? Because The Undertaker is a character that works better with mystique.

The earlier this match would have been confirmed, the easier fans would have stopped paying attention to it as intrigue would have stopped being about if it would happen and more about why it’s happening. That raises questions WWE needs to answer: What are Undertaker’s thoughts about losing to Roman Reigns? Does he have a personal grudge against John Cena? Why did he only pop up to cut that weird promo at Raw 25? Is this his TRUE final match? What does WWE do with these two once The Deadman accepts Cena’s challenge, considering he isn’t going to wrestle on Raw and can’t just cut 5 of the same promo without it being boring?

This build has been entirely based on “do something” as a line, and come next Monday night, Undertaker will show up, accept the challenge, cut the few sentences he needs to say in his promo and we’ll be off to the races. It’s The Undertaker vs. John Cena for God’s sake. You don’t need the two of them causing interference in each other’s matches to help sell the potential of the match between two of the biggest names the industry has ever witnessed.

Sometimes, less is more.
