Ron Simmons Celebrates Milestone

In what originally was supposed to be a match pitting Sting against WCW World Heavyweight Champion Big Van Vader, Sting suffered an injury, which left the No. 1 contender spot vacant. Ron Simmons was able to win a raffle and fill the vacancy of the top contender spot.

On August 2, 1992, Ron Simmons was able to defeat Vader in Baltimore, MD to become the first black world champion, according to WCW and WWE. 25 years later, this moment is still one of the most poignant in professional wrestling history, and helped cement Simmons to now be a member of the WWE Hall of Fame.

Drew Gulak Praises John Cena

As WZ reported, the latest SmackDown Live was headlined by John Cena competing against Shinsuke Nakamura to determine the No. 1 contender for the WWE Championship, with the winner facing Jinder Mahal at SummerSlam. The match concluded with Nakamura defeating Cena and earning the opportunity.

During the match, Nakamura did his normal routine of the reverse exploder suplex, which is the prelude to the Kinshasa. Unfortunately, for Cena, it was not a clean landing, and he looked to be quite razzled after falling on his head.

When Cena congratulated Nakamura during his celebration, Nakamura told Cena, “I’m sorry,” before continuing to celebrate his victory in the ring. Cena looked to have understood that it was a simple mishap, and embraced the new No. 1 contender.

205 Live competitor Drew Gulak went to Twitter to praise Cena for recovering from the bump.
